This Weeks News

November 8, 2018

A chairde,

Another week passes in SKGAA and lots more football and hurling has been enjoyed!! Firstly, a big congratulations goes to Sean Armstrong and Finian Hanley and the Galway Senior football panel on the emphatic win over Donegal last Saturday. 6 points from the boot of ‘Army’ showed how much Galway missed the SKGAA man in the Connacht final loss.

Galway now play Kerry in the All-Ireland ¼ Finals this Sunday in Croke Park where Galway will be hoping to do one better than last year and set up a semi-final berth!!

Well done to the U16 camogie team who played for the first time in the Connacht Camogie 7's in the Connacht GAA Centre, Bekan.

The girls ran out winners after beating city rivals Castlegar in the final. The support was fantastic along with the hurling.

With Race week approaching, it is holiday time for most people, so we here at SKGAA want to wish everybody save travelling and enjoyment for the break. (and come back in one piece to finish off the season!)

Knocknacarra 2-05 to 1-05 Cappataggle.

The U13's played Cappataggle on Monday evening in Cappataggle in the County B Shield semi final. This time we came out on the right side with a 3 point win.  At half time we were trailing by 2 points 1-02 to 1-04  , 2 points coming from Conal Gavin and a goal by Oisín Quinlan.  We needed a big performance in the second half and thats what the boys gave us.  Conal Gavin hit his 3rd point before full forward Cormac Kelly put the ball to the back of the net . Cappataggle score their only point of the half to put the score at 2-03 to 1-05 with only a few minutes to go.  We finished off very strong when Eoghan Flannery hit two long range points to give us a 3 point lead.  But their was one last twist when Cappataggle were awarded a penalty in injury time and a goal for the home side would have put the game into extra time.  But a great save was pulled off by Oisín Quinlan to give Salthill Knocknacarra the win . It was a great team performance and we face a very tough Gort side in the final in a few weeks. Date TBC.
