Tony Murphy RIP

November 7, 2018

Tony was a key figure in the re-forming of Moydow Harpers in 1976 and made history by scoring the first point of the newly formed club in a challenge match with Ballymore.

In his 20+ years playing with the Harpers, Tony collected numerous honours on the playing fields. As part of a strong team in the 1970s & 1980s, Tony won the Moydow Sports Cup (1978), Twaddle Cup (1979 & 1983), McPhillips Cup (1981), Special Junior League (1983), Longford Junior Championship (1986) and Junior League (1986).

Along with playing for the Harpers, Tony was participated on the committee and was chairman for a number of years in the 1980s.

Tony continued playing into his forties and bridged generations of Harpers footballers by encouraging and protecting young players in the Junior grade. Tony won more honours in the 1990s, with league title in 1997.

Tony also represented Moydow Harpers on the Longford Masters football team for a number of years in the 1990s alongside Terry McCormack who also passed away this week. We hope they can relive their times together in Heaven.

The Moydow Harpers extend their sincere sympathies to the Murphy family and friends on this sad occasion.
