A special thanks must go to all our stewards on the day they were up in Fr. Dowling Park from 8am on Sunday morning and did everything they could to let the day run as smoothly as it did.
Rhode Minor’s who only lost out on qualifying for the quarter final by the virtue of Tullamore beating Gracefield on Friday night. Rhode, Gracefield and Tullamore all finished on the same number of points with Rhode losing out on score differences. The eight teams that did not qualify for the A quarter final now play in B championship and on Sunday morning Rhode beat St. Rynagh’s in Rhode on a 3-12 to 4-2 score line.
Hard luck to the Rhode Senior Ladies footballers who were narrowly beaten by St. Rynagh’s in the County Final on a 3-11 to 3-10 score line after an epic encounter played in ideal conditions at a well presented Clara grounds. Rhode trailed by four points at the interval 1-6 to 0-5. The second half was very contested with scores galore which provide huge entertainment. Both teams are to be applauded for providing such a great game of football. So hard luck to the girls and management team of John Jones, Jason Byrne and Martin Kerrigan.
Well done and best of luck to Rhode’s Paschal Kellaghan who has been appointed manager of the Offaly Minor’s for the coming year. Paschal has managed the Offaly Under 21 side in 2012 getting them to the Leinster semi-final when they were narrowly beaten by Louth. He also has management experiences at club level with Ballinabrackey and Monasterevin winning Leinster titles with both.
