U-12s play entertaining game with Balla. Mayo Gaels 1-14 Balla 6-5

A cold Abbey Park played host to a very entertaining game of football on Saturday evening as Mayo Gaels clashed with Balla in an U-12 challenge. A very high standard of football was shown from the start and at half time both teams could not be separated on a score line of Mayo Gaels 1-7 Balla 3-1. A feature of the first half was the long range shooting from the Mayo Gaels players who could have been in front were it not for the intervention of the crossbar and posts on four separate occasions. Balla’s ability to strike for goals at crucial times was a key element and one which would have a huge impact on the final score line.

The second half was much the same as the first with both sides playing excellent football. A stand out factor was the defensive effort from both teams with the number of blocks put in underlining the hard work. In the end the ability to find the back of the net by the Balla players was the difference and try as they might the Gaels couldn’t find an extra few goals. They will be happy with their performance however and look forward to playing more challenges in the coming weeks before the start of the league. Final score Mayo Gaels 1-14 Balla 6-5.
