U-14 & U-16 Match Reports

November 8, 2018

The U-14 team travelled to Islandeady on Monday night and were defeated narrowly by 3-10 to 3-8. Islandeady, playing with the wind in the first half, led by 3-7 to 2-1 at halftime, but the Davitts lads fought back well in the second half, only just failing to overtake their hosts. Outstanding for Davitts were Thomas Monaghan, Dylan Higgins, Denis Og Fahy, Michael and Padraig Mangan, Jack Rodgers and Mikey Devane.

On Tuesday evening, Davitts played close neighbours Claremorris in Div 2 of the County U-16 league, with Davitts coming out on top, 0-8 to 0-7, in a very tight game that unfortunately will be remembered more for the poor performance of the referee, than for the quality of the football played. Neither team could develop any sort of a rhythm in this stop start game, as the whistle happy official spoiled what should have been a very interesting dress rehearsal for the upcoming championship clash.

Amazingly, over 15 minutes of stoppage time was played, baffling the large attendance, who lost count of the number of yellow cards issued, and the late dismissals of Claremorris players Ronan Finn and Michael Lavelle appeared very harsh. Davitts were worthy winners and displayed tremendous spirit in the second half to hold off Claremorris, who threw everything at them in their attempts to overturn a 0-6 to 0-3 halftime deficit. Liam Noone displayed unerring accuracy for the homeside, scoring 7 excellent points. Others to shine for Davitts were Brian Clarke, Donal Ronayne, Cathal Higgins who was superb at wing back, Gerard McWalter, Tommy Charles, Tommy Waldron and Andrew Peters.
