U-16 Season Review for 2007

Our U-16 team lined out in Division 1 again for 2007.  Hopes were high at the start of the year, and the lads let know one down finishing the seven match league campaign with a 100% victorious record.  In the league semi-final, we came up against Lurgan and came out the right side of a narrow victory after a very tough encounter.

We made the trip to Cootehill for the league final where we met a Ballyhaise side that we had earlier defeated, however on this occasion we came up just short losing out by four points.

After the success of the league run, everybody was hoping for a good championship run.  In the opening round we met Lurgan for the third time this year, and after two narrow victories already, the Virginia side were definitely up for this one.  A terrific high-scoring game was played out and this time Lurgan grabbed the victory by 2-14 to 1-14.

So despite huge effort from players and management, and some excellent football along the way, their was no silverware to show for their efforts.  However, this is a very talented group of players and hopefully they can be kept together and build on the progress made this year
