Davitts travelled to Ardnaree in their opening match in the U-21 B championship and were defeated by four points. Points in the opening minutes by Liam Kearns and Richie Kilkenny suggested that it might be Davitts night but Ardnaree were well on top for the remainder of the half, and but for some wayward shooting, would have had an even greater lead than their 1-6 to 0-2 halftime advantage.
Davitts improved considerably in the second period with Kevin Gallagher in inspirational form in defence, and Fergal McGrath providing the leadership in attack, but they had left themselves with too much to do after the dismal first half showing.
On a evening when too many players were well below par, Gallagher and McGrath got most assistance from Tommy Mitchell, Laurence Daly, John Heneghan and Josh Ronayne.
