U-21's Draw

November 8, 2018

At wet, wild and windy Paddy Walsh Memorial Park in Castlemartyr on last Saturday night our under 21 hurling championship game against Cloyne ended in a draw. Brutal was the only way to describe conditions. The previous Saturday night in Pairc Uí Chaoimh the sun beamed down but in Castlemartyr the players had to battle with a ferociously strong wind and spilling rain. Cloyne won the toss and decided to play against the elements. They had the first 3 points but then our lads got going and in the last twenty minutes of the half we scored 3-4 to Cloyne’s single point to leave us up 3-4 to 0-4 at the break. With the wind and rain behind them in the second half, Cloyne started like a whirlwind. They scored 2-1 and with less than ten minutes left we were just a point ahead 3-5 to 2-7. We stretched that lead to two but Cloyne had two late pointed frees to level the scores at Bride Rovers 3-6 to Cloyne 2-9. This was the real proverbial game of two halves and in fairness to our lads when the chips were down near the end they played with great spirit and determination. At the time of writing no date has been fixed for the replay.
