U12's meet their match; Breaffy 6:12 Mayo Gaels 6:12

November 8, 2018

The Gaels, probably feeling a little cocky after their recent run of form, were hit by a tidal wave in the 1st quarter. Breaffy notched up 3:03 to 0:00 before our guys were able to respond. That early lapse in concentration was to make things very interesting for the whole game as the first quarter ended with Breaffy five goals to the good.

The 2nd quarter was a much more even affair with both side trading scores and the play moving from end to end. Our half-backs were getting on the ball more and Jack came out to the middle to take some of the pressure off. It brought us to half time with Breaffy still holding that five goal advantage.

The 3rd quarter was the one where we displayed the reasons why we are top of the table. Sean Joyce, Sean Keane and Luke were ‘lording’ it in midfield and ‘hat-trick-Ethan’ showing how lethal he is in front of goal. We notched up 4:01 in that quarter without reply, leaving Breaffy two points in front going into the last quarter.

We came out for the last quarter in the same form as the 3rd and roared into a 4 point lead with a smashing goal by Sean Keane. Breaffy however responded well with a goal of their own and a last minute free kick gave them the point to level matters. There was some debate about the final scoreline but whatever the mix-up was, and after that first quarter, the Gaels were happy to be going home with a point.

Next up for this bunch of players is a home game against Achill on June 24th at 18:30. Hopefully lessons were learned in Breaffy and due respect will be given to all opponents for the rest of the campaign.
