U14 Footballers continue winning ways

Edenderry U14’s gained another two valuable points with a seven point victory over Clara on Friday night in Edenderry. Despite played over fifty minutes with fourteen men the reds were the better team and were fully deserving of their win.

 

Edenderry started the brightest and after just thirty three second full forward Adam Whelan had the ball in the net after some great work from Peter McNamara and Andrew Moloney. Clara responded after three minutes with a point but two minutes later Conor Farrell pointed for the reds after a quick sideline ball from Lee Hyland. Clara hit back straight from their kick-out and got a goal of their own to level the tie. On eight minutes Lee Hyland combined well with Craig Mangan and Lee finished the ball to the back of the net. Just one minute later Adam Whelan received a straight card after an altercation with the Clara full back. There was a thirteen minute lull before another score and it was Clara who registered a point. Three minutes later Stevie Osborne scored a goal for Edenderry after he powered through the Clara defence. In the closing minutes of the first half Peter McNamara scored two points for the reds to give them an eight point lead.

Edenderry held a comfortable half time lead and within the first eight minutes of the second half Stevie Osborne and Andrew Moloney pointed to give the reds a ten point lead. On sixteen minutes Clara pointed from a free which was quickly cancelled out by an Andrew Moloney point. Stevie Osborne pointed two minutes later for the reds and that would prove to be their last score of the game. In the closing five minutes of the game Clara scored three points to leave seven points between the sides.

 

Overall Edenderry will be pleased to have collected two more points and remain on course for the knockout stages.
