Robertstown…..1-02

Edenderry played Robertstown at home in an under 14 football challenge last Thursday. After a game of three thirds of 20 minutes Edenderry ran out comfortable winners by 25 points.

In the first third Edenderry opened the scoring through midfielder Aaron McDonnell when he easily converted a free from in front of the posts. This score was followed by a brilliant point from Craig Monaghan, who sent the ball over from a tight angle. Edenderry then got a slice of luck when an attempted fisted point from Aaron McDonnell rebounded off the crossbar to Craig Monaghan who sent the ball to the back of the net. Robertstown then opened their account when they sent a point over from a free. They soon followed up with a very good goal, before Jamie Dolan denied them a second goal with a great save shortly after going between the posts for the injured Cain Brereton.

Leslie Nolan opened the scoring in the second third with a fantastic point. Alex Kenny then scored his first goal as he sent the Robertstown goalie the wrong way with a good shot. Craig Monaghan then grabbed his second goal, when he finished to the net after an excellent pass from Aaron McDonnell. Edenderry then hit three points in a row from Leslie Nolan, Alex Kenny and Aaron McDonnell, before Alex drove the ball to the net from an almost impossible angle. This was a good all round performance from all 26 Edenderry players. One the most pleasing aspects of this display was the defensive play, which held Robertstown to only three scores over the hour. Some players to stand out in defence were Damien Sadowski, David Hughes, Oran Lawton, Ciaran Kelliher, Mark Abbott and Kevin Beatty. Edenderry would like to thank Robertstown for the game, and the club would like to thank John McDonnell was the man in the middle.
