U14's Qualify For Feile Semi-Final

November 8, 2018

Edenderry……2-12
Clara………..0-03

Edenderry under 14 footballers qualified for the semi final of the Offaly Football Feile with a big win over Clara on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-03 in a sunny Kilclonfert last Sunday.

Playing against the slight breeze in opening half, Clara looked like they would make the ideal start. The referee had awarded Clara a penalty, when it looked like Ross Mangan gave a fair shoulder, but Cain Brereton made a great save from the spot-kick when he got down brilliantly to his right hand side. Edenderry broke down field to take the lead when Mikey Clear sent the ball over the bar, after Adam Mahon went on a great solo run and then passed to Mikey. Alex Kenny added his side’s second point after he sent the ball over from the corner, after Adam Mahon dispossessed a Clara defender with some great tackling. Edenderry then scored their first goal of the game when Alex Kenny was on hand to finish the ball to the net, after a fantastic run from Mikey Clear. Aaron McDonnell then scored Edenderry’s second goal when he finished to the corner of the net after a good pass from Mikey Clear. Alex Kenny was on the scoresheet again when he added another point, after good work from Leslie Nolan at corner forward. Matthew O’Grady then scored a point after a good run from midfield. Edenderry then finished the half well with two late points from Alex Kenny and Jamie Dolan.

Halftime, Edenderry 2-06 Clara 0-00.

Edenderry made a good start to the second half with two early points. The first came from a Jamie Dolan fisted point, after the ball fell to him from a rebounded Oran Lawton shot, and the second came from a good Alex Kenny shot. Clara the grabbed their first two scores of the game, when they scored two points from frees. Dylan Maloney was then brought into the action in place of Adam Mahon, before Oran Lawton got a cut, and Mark Abbott came in as a ‘blood sub’. Alex Kenny grabbed the next score of the game when he won a Clara kick-out and sent the ball over the bar. Aaron McDonnell then scored a good point, after a pin-point pass from Jamie Dolan. The Edenderry management then introduced Bobby Walsh and David Hughes in place of Alex Kenny and Ciaran Farrell respectively, before Mikey Clear added his second point of the game. Clara then scored their third and last point, before Oran Lawton finished off the scoring with a very good point.

Edenderry had some excellent performances from Cain Brereton, Craig Monaghan, Karl Murphy, Aaron McDonnell, Mikey Clear and Alex Kenny. Edenderry will now play Shamrocks this Saturday in the Feile Semi-Final at 5.30pm in O’Connor Park, Tullamore. The best of luck to the team and management in their effort to reach the final, which will take place at 7.15pm on the same day, also in O’Connor Park.
