Ireland‘s U18 girls today finished off their four nations campaign in style when they finished in third place beating host nation Wales 4-1.

Fifteen year old Dora Gorman, who got a taste for scoring in yesterdays match opened Ireland‘s account in the 7^th minute of play when Naomi Carroll picked out Gorman in the circle for a slap finish from the penalty spot for a one nil lead. Ireland continued to dominate the match and their persistence paid off in the 23^rd minute when Jessica McMickan tapped the ball in for Irelands second of the day. Only five minutes later McMickan once again showed off her goal scoring prowess by picking up a pass in the circle to fire the ball home at close range to give Ireland a healthy three goal lead at half time

Ireland were punished just sixty seconds into the start of the second half for a lapse in concentration, giving the Welsh space to play around the Irish defence and finish off with a shot from the top left of the circle to give them their only goal of the match. The Irish continued to dominate and control the pace and were rewarded for their efforts in the 44^th minute when play maker Naomi Carroll finished off the Irish goal tally in style when a well worked corner was slipped left for the direct shot from Carroll.

Irelands coach Mary Logue had a right to be proud of her team’s performance today which showed a very cohesive team performance ‘I am very pleased with the performance today, particularly the work rate that the girls showed. I was also pleased to see the girls converting goals from the opportunities we created.’

Ireland‘s U18 teams travel home later this evening, after Ireland take on England in the Boy’s U18 Final at Cardiff.
