U19 ‘A’ Championship: Palatine 2-13 Clonmore 0-9

November 8, 2018

Having won the Minor ‘B’ last year, Clonmore opted to play in the U19’A’ Championship this year. Our lads tried their best, played very well at times but Pal were able to get their scores that bit easier, being a more mature team with a number of senior players onboard, while Clonmore's panel included four under 16s. It was a good, wholehearted performance by Clonmore and they showed plenty of spirit, skill and ability. Unfortunately the final scoreline doesn’t reflect the balance of play. Next game is against Fenagh next Friday at venue to be decided.

Story of the game:

15mins: Clonmore 0-3 Pal 0-2, two great long range points by Sean Deay, one a 40m free, and good point by Tom Pollard,

Half-time: Clonmore 0-3 Pal 1-6, while Clonmore miss a number of scoring chances, Pal pull away in second quarter with a killer goal on stroke of HT,

48mins: Clonmore 0-7 Pal 1-9, a mini Clonmore revival in third quarter with two more long frees by Sean Deay and two points by Dylan. A number of promising attacks by Clonmore run into cul-de-sacs and a couple of goal chances that could have brought us right back into the game are blocked.

Full-time: Clonmore 0-9 Pal 2-13, our revival is quashed on 50mins as Pal's Cathal O'Neill scores a cracking goalafter a wayward kick-out. We continued to drive forward in search for goals but our only rewards were a free by Dylan Doyle and a goalbound shot from Eoin Byrne pushed over the bar by the keeper.
