Under 10 hurling

November 7, 2018

The U10 south hurling blitz was played in Ned Hall Park, Clonmel last Sunday morning. The St. Pats boys, for the first time in a long time(if ever?), competed in the A division. We were up against Carrick Swan, St. Marys, Moyle Rovers and Cahir.

First off we had St. Mary’s and in the first half it was very even, with Mary’s going in a point up. We had hurled against a reasonably strong breeze in the first half but it was Mary’s who got the scores late in the second half to close out the game with a narrow win. It finished Pats 0-04 to Marys ??.

Second up was Cahir, we went in 2-2 to 0-1 down at half time. The Pats lads hurled a great second half scoring 3 goals, 1 from an Aidan Fitzgerald free and two from Cathal Foley. Unfortunately we came up 2 points short at the final whistle in a game that could have went anyway. It finished Pats 3-01 to Cahir 3-03.

Next up was Moyle Rovers who were a big physical outfit. We competed very well with only two points in it at half time but Rovers physical power led to 2 second half goals which sealed the victory for them. It finished Pats 3-03 to Rovers 5-04.

In our last game we had the undefeated Swans. We hurled a great first half and unfortunately didn’t convert a few scoring chances and went in 2 points down. Swan with the wind in the second half put on big pressure but the Pats lads dug in and just conceded two points but again failed to convert their own scores and it finished with a Swan win by 4 points. It finished Swan 0-04 to Pats 0-00.

Even though we didn’t register a victory, all the people present relaised the quality of hurling played by St. Pats over the 4 games. It was a credit to this bunch of players that they won the B football earlier in the year and competed well in the A hurling.
