Under 14's Beaten In Final

November 8, 2018

Last Saturday the Edenderry under 14 footballers went down to an excellent Ferbane/Belmont side in the Under 14 County Final on a scoreline of 4-13 to 2-05.

Ferbane/Belmont went into an early two point lead with two excellent scores, one from play and one from a free. But Edenderry soon settled, and Jamie Dolan opened his sides account when he side-stepped a Ferbane/Belmont defender and then sent over a very good point. Aaron McDonnell then levelled with a great point from a free, which was awarded for a foul on Mikey Clear. Ferbane/Belmont then hit a goal and a point in quick succession to open up a four point lead. Adam Mahon then pulled a point back for Edenderry, after a good move involving Mikey Clear and Jamie Dolan. Ferbane/Belmont then opened up a nine point lead as they scored an unanswered goal and three points. Just before the break Leslie Nolan was introduced for Craig Monaghan who had been injured a few minutes earlier in the game.

Halftime, Edenderry 0-03 Ferbane/Belmont 2-06.

Ferbane/Belmont opened the scoring in the second half with an excellent point. Ross Mangan then powered his way through the middle of the Ferbane/Belmont defence to send over a brilliant point. Ferbane/Belmont then scored two points and a goal which took a deflection before ending up in the Edenderry net. Mark Abbott was then introduced into the action in place of David Hughes, before Ciaran Farrell scored an Edenderry goal, as he finished to the net after a good pass from Aaron McDonnell. Ferbane/Belmont responded with a good point, before the unfortunate Mark Abbott had to leave the field injured after only being in the action a matter of minutes, with Stephen Lennon coming on in his place. Ferbane/Belmont then hit a further goal and a point, before Bobby Walsh replaced Alex Kenny in the full-forward line. Moments later Edenderry were awarded a penalty, but the Ferbane/Belmont goalie made a fine save to deny Aaron McDonnell from the resulting spot-kick. Despite missing the penalty, Edenderry didn’t drop their heads, as they scored a good goal from Jamie Dolan, and a point from a Matthew O’Grady free. However Ferbane/Belmont finished out the game stronger as they added two more points before the final whistle.

Congratulations to Ferbane/Belmont who added this Under 14 title to the Feile title won earlier in the year. Well done to all the Edenderry lads and their mentors Ger Farrell, John Kelliher, Jimmy Dolan and Tom Lawton for reaching the final of the championship.
