Under-14's Lose in West Region Final

November 7, 2018

In today’s second game in Ballingeary, Urhan were also to be disappointed, as St. Colum’s emerged victorious – 3-13 to 2-07. Hard luck, lads, but well done on a fine season.

In an impressive first-half, St. Colum’s produced much the better football, racing into a 1-05 to 0-01 lead by the quarter-hour mark, Urhan’s only score coming courtesy of Andrew O’ Neill.

Urhan were to rally for aperiod from there, Andrew O’ Neill pointing again and Philip O’ Shea getting on the score board with a free on twenty-three minutes. However, Colum’s were always threatening, and a third goal changed the momentum again, and Colum’s were to build on that to lead comprehensively at the break 3-08 to 0-03.

To their credit, Urhan were to recover much pride in the second half, making light of the concession of two further points and storming into the game. Dominating now all through the backs, and finally getting a foothold around the middle, the forwards began to click.

Dylan Murphy goaled on forty minutes, Cillian Shea immediately did likewise. Urhan were threatening with every attack. a few point chances went a-begging, Colum’s landed two of their own. A Philip O’ Shea blast at goal was tipped over for a point, the same player converted a free. at the other end, Simon Harrison, as reliable as ever under the dropping ball, saved a fine one-on-one.

But time ws running out, and Urhan needed every score. Another free from philip O’ Shea, but a wide and a narrow wide from a goal chance broke the spell. Colum’s pointed from a free. Urhan came again with another free, and kept coming to the final whistle, another goal chance zipped wide, and time eventually ran out. Colum’s deservedly won on the day, despite a valiant Urhan fightback.

Urhan 2-07 St. Colum’s 3-13.
