On Saturday last 13th October Anner Gaels played Longmore-Castleiney in the under 16 B Football County Final on a blustery, wet day in Golden. Loughmore opened the scoring before a free from Cathal O’Mahoney, 2 points from Ryan Walsh and a point from Ciaran Moroney had Anner Gaels in an early lead. But then Loughmore got a goal from out of nowhere. Ryan Cranitch got a point back before Loughmore were awarded a penalty from which they scored a goal. The half time score was Loughmore 2-2 Anner Gaels 0-5. Loughmore started the second half very strongly and scored 1-2 without reply to go 8 points clear. 3 points from Ciaran Moroney and a Cathal O Mahoney free got Anner Gaels back into it. Loughmore kicked 1 point before Michsál Quinlan was fouled in the square and Cathal O Mahoney smashed home the penalty to get it back to just 2 points. Ryan Walsh kicked another point so there was just 1 in it. Loughmore got another point, before scores from Ciaran Moroney and another Cathal O Mahoney free levelled the game. Extra time looked on the cards but with the last kick of the game Matt McCormack scored a point under pressure to win it for the Gaels. The full-time score was 1-13 to 3- 6.
