Urhan’s Under-16’s recorded a 1-15 to to 2-07 win in Tousist on Sunday to seal a Beara League place.
Playing with a significant wind in the first half, it was Urhan who made the early running, racing into a three-point lead before Tousist replied with their first.
Urhan tacked on another only to be countered again and it was 0-4 to 0-2 with Urhan making the running now. This was to show on the scoreboard with four further Urhan points giving Urhan a somewhat flattering 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the short whistle. the feeling was that, against the wind, they would need it all.
And so it proved. Tousist dominated the centre for the first ten minutes of the second half, winning a succession of kick-outs. Had they taken more of their chances they could have levelled the game in this period. As it was, Urhan held out with stout defence and a quicksilver break from the back saw a three-man move and a Sean o’ Sullivan goal. 1-08 to 0-05.
Urhan now enjoyed a better spell, tacking on points from even possession, and entering into the final ten they lead 1-14 to 0-06.
Tousist were far from finished, however. Once again they camped in the visitors’ half as Urhan backs struggled manfully to clear their lines, only to see the ball return time and time again. Tousist scored two fine goals and the tie was in the balance. A further point from the home side with time running out left only a four-point gap between the teams as we entered added time.
It was Urhan who notched the last score of the game, however, and emerged with a good win on the road.
