Underage Football returns next Sunday.

November 7, 2018

Athlone Ladies

Athlone Junior/Minor Ladies recent strength and conditioning training session was given by one of Ireland's leading female boxers, Irish National Champion from Tullamore, Grainne Walsh. A former Irish International soccer player, now concentrating on Olympic qualification in Tokyo as part of the Boxing team, Grainne put together a most enjoyable circuit for the girls with some great advice and tips on strength and stretches. It was a session that went down really well and it was great learning for everyone here to see how national athletes work on performance. Grainne took time to answer questions and shared her own experiences in the sport of boxing and soccer at national level. The burning questions included does it hurt….yes! Is she ever afraid… yes!  But really the key here was preparation, preparation, preparation. She gets in the zone and is well prepared and that's what it is all about, putting in the work. It was a fantastic experience for the everyone to have Grainne down in the club and certainly the ladies will be linking in with her again.
