Victories for Moynalvey in A & B Leagues

November 8, 2018

B League
Moynalvey secured a narrow win when overcoming Na Fianna by a single point in the 5th round of the B league at Kilmore Park Moynalvey on Monday 21st June.

Moynalvey 0-10 Na Fianna 1-6

As the old cliché says this was a game of two halves. Moynalvey completely dominated possession in the opening period, leading 0-4 to 0-1 at the break, despite losing goalkeeper Giles Drum to injury early on. Brian Gilsenan opened the scoring for Moynalvey when sending over in the 8th minute. Ciaran Collins, PJ Walsh & Ray Ryan had the home side four points to the good after 18 minutes. Na Fianna registered their only score of the half with a free kick in the 22nd minute, but could well have been level at the interval only for an excellent save by replacement keeper Ciaran Ennis.

It was double scores a minute into the second period as Na Fianna converted another free kick. Five minutes later Paul Corcoran restored Moynalvey’s three point advantage when splitting the posts with an effort off the outside of his right boot. However Na Fianna enjoyed a large amount of possession over the remaining third of the game. Four unanswered points from play had the Baconstown/Enfield combination ahead for the first time in the 44th minute. Two minutes later Na Fianna looked to be on their way to victory when they led by four after raising the only green flag of the game. However Moynalvey failed to give in and over the remaining quarter two converted free kicks from Ray Ryan and a Brian Conneely effort brought the sides level with two minutes remaining, before the experienced PJ Walsh slotted over in the dyeing seconds to earn Moynalvey a hard earned victory.

A League

Moynalvey recorded their third straight victory in Division 3 of the A League when overcoming Ratoath with two points to spare in Moynalvey on Wednesday June 23rd.

Moynalvey 2-12 Ratoath 3-7

Having lost their opening three league games, Moynalvey reversed the trend and recorded their third straight victory following on from their wins over Meath Hill & Drumconrath. The home side were first to score when corner forward Anthony Brien pointed in the third minute, however Moynalvey’s lead was short lived as Ratoath raised the first green flag of the game two minutes later and furthered their advantage again in the 8th minute. The sides traded scores before Moynalvey enjoyed a purple patch when Stephen Donoghue & Mark O’Sullivan pointed, and Daniel Treacy pounced on a blocked O’Sullivan effort to fire to the back of the net before adding a point to his tally in the 19th minute. However Moynalvey went to the dressing room a point behind at the break mustering up only a further point over the remaining ten minutes as Ratoath added two further points and netted for a second time in the 27th minute.

After the interval Ratoath furthered their lead again before Moynalvey’s attack sparked into life registering three points on the trot from Byrne and two superb O’Sullivan efforts from play. Ratoath then once again scythed all too easily through the Moynalvey defence in the 45th minute for their third goal. A draw looked to be on the cards after efforts from substitute Brian Gilsenan, O’Sullivan and Byrne left the sides’ level on a score line of 1-12 to 3-6, before Ray Ryan excellently finished to the net from an acute angle in the 58th minute. Ratoath thought they had earned a share of the spoils in the final minutes when the ball was punched to the net, only to see their effort disallowed for square ball, but did add a further point in injury time resulting in Moynalvey winning on a score line of 2-12 to 3-7. Best performers for Moynalvey were Robbie Kiernan, Paul Conneely and Willie Byrne.
