Victory for Salthill at Community Games

November 8, 2018

The Community Games National Finals were held on Sunday, at the Regional Sports Centre in Athlone.  Salthill earned their place in the final the previous day, having beaten off the challenges of Leinster’s Ballymahon Road squad, from Athlone.  They were quietly confident as they lined out against Munster’s Monaleen squad, from Limerick.

The game proceeded in a one-sided manner, with a half-time score of 3-0 to Salthill.  Every squad member played their part, & there were scenes of great jubiliation as the final whistle blew, with a full-time score of 6-0 to Salthill.

Great credit is due to Manager Mike Ryan & Coach Aoife Smith (Former Greenfields member), who prepared this squad for the Games.  In the 29 years of hockey at the Community Games, Salthill had often dreamt of winning, so it was a proud moment for Captain Alison Ryan, as she accepted the Paul O’Reilly Perpetual Trophy.
Congratulations Salthill, & well done to the following Greenfields players, who were squad members:

Rachel Bradley
Aisling Dunne

Ailbhe Finnerty
Cliodhna Kirk
