Under 21 Footballers in East Cork Final.

For the second year in  a row our u21 football team are in the East Cork Championship Final. The circumstances of the progression to the final this year however are far different from 2008. Last year we had a tough three game campaign whereas this year we have had no game – and we are in the final!  When the Draws for this competition were made at the East Cork Board earlier in the year we were paired v St. Catherines in round one. This game was fixed three weeks ago but we received a walk-over and thus progressed to the semi-final. This was pencilled in for Dungourney last Sunday evening when our opponents were to be  Russell Rovers. Over the weekend came the news then of a second walkover which means we are in the Final once more. It is not a satisfactory way of progressing in championship football but it is not of our making. In the Divisional Final we will be meeting either Cloyne or Midleton who contest the second semi-final. No date has been fixed for the Final at the time of writing.

Junior Footballlers Out.

Our Junior A Grade Football team have exited the Championship in Round Two. At Sallybrook last Tuesday night under lights we lost out to Glanmire’s second string  by 1-8 to 0-7. We had led at the break by 0-6 to 0-3 but lost our way in the second half. So before the month of March was over we’d played two JAFC games and lost the two. It means for the first time since 2002 we have failed to make the semi final at least of the East Cork Junior Football Championship. We’ve contested 5 Finals winning two and we’ve also contested 3 J.F. League Finals, winning one.

Senior Hurling League.

We travelled to the recently crowned All Ireland Intermediate Hurling Club Champions Blarney on Saturday evening for a SHL game. We were overwhelmed in the first half by a far superior and sharper home side. The second half was a bit better but not much and in the end we lost by 3-11 to 1-10. On next Sunday we play Sarsfields in the SHL
