SENIOR

Senior: The Blues booked their place in the last sixteen of the county senior hurling championship, but only after a ferocious battle with Clonoulty-Rossmore at The Ragg on Sunday evening (1-18 to 2-14). Elsewhere in group one of Roinn I Templederry Kenyons beat Ballina 3-15 to 1-12. Therefore three teams finished on four points in the group with score difference deciding the final placings – first: Nenagh Éire Óg (+24), second: Clonoulty-Rossmore (+21) and third Templederry Kenyons (+10). The last sixteen of the county championship will not be played until the divisional championships conclude. The first round of the Hibernian North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 17th – Nenagh Éire Óg will face Toomevara in Cloughjordan at 7pm. The lads would appreciate your support for this crucial match. Junior A: Éire Óg have two games to play during the group phase of the Watch Centre North Tipperary Junior A Hurling League against Borris-Ileigh and Knockshegowna. The game against Borris-Ileigh is expected to be played before the week-ending May 24th – the clash with Knockshegowna is scheduled to be played on that weekend. The league semi-finals are scheduled to take place on the week-ending May 31st or June 7th while the final will take place on the week-ending June 7th or June 14th. Having suffered defeats at the hands of Toomevara and Roscrea the Blues have it all to do to make the semi-finals. The first round of the junior A championship is scheduled to take place on the week-ending June 21st. This year the team is managed by Greg Browne (manager), Con Morris, Michael Ryan and Conor Ryan.

Junior B: Éire Óg have just one group game to play against Shannon Rovers in the Watch Centre North Tipperary Junior B Hurling League – that game is scheduled to take place on the week-ending May 24th. Although Nenagh beat Toomevara defeats suffered at the hands of Portroe, Moneygall and Newport mean the Blues can’t qualify for the knock-out stages of this year’s competition. The first round of the junior B championship is scheduled to take place on the week-ending June 21st or June 28th. The Nenagh Éire Óg team are managed this year by Cian Tucker (manager), Mark Long, Paddy Flynn and John Paul King.

JUVENILE

Under-6 and under-8 training continues at the usual times.

Football training continues on Tuesdays for under-8 and 10 boys. Keep up the good work.

Under-12 training is in full swing with challenge matches being played. The Eire Óg Street League match was deferred from Monday due to condition of field but will be played on Wednesday or Thursday. Texts will be sent out.

The under-14 footballers played Kilruane on Wednesday in the final round of the championship. Played in difficult conditions, the lads were very unlucky to lose out to an excellently-taken last minute Kilruane goal on a scoreline of 3-5 to 2-6. We have, however, qualified for the semi-final and play Lorrha-Shannon Rovers on Wednesday in Nenagh at 6.30pm to decide the semi-final pairings. The hurlers travelled to Mungret on Sunday morning and played out a very competitive challenge with all panel members seeing game time. The under-14 hurling development squad travel to Ballyskenach/Killavilla of Offaly on Thursday evening for a challenge at 7pm. Best of luck to Conor Hennessy, Gavin Dooley, Seán Phelan, Barry Coffey, Liam Heffernan, Cian Griffin and Brendan Long who are all members of the Nenagh CBS panel playing Árdscoil Rís of Limerick in the Rice Cup semi-final on Tuesday in Newport at 1.30pm.

Hard luck to our under-16 footballers who lost out in an extraordinary north final last Thursday by two points to a strong Inane Rovers team. The game was played with great pace and intensity from the throw-in with wonderful goals scored by both teams. Eleven goals were scored in total, not to mention the great saves made by the Inane and Nenagh goalies. Final score: Inane Rovers 7-2 Nenagh Éire Óg 4-9. We wish the best of luck to the lads as many of them prepare for exams after which the hurling season will start.

NENAGH HANDBALL CLUB

Munster have retained the Girls Interprovincial Team of Ten with a game to spare after winning the fourth game 21-10 to take an unassailable lead 69-47 into the last game. Congratulations to Nenagh Handball Club members Sinéad and Eimear Meagher who were members of the team and Eamonn Spillane who was one of the three Munster coaches. Well done from all in the club.

CAMOGIE

Junior A: Best wishes to our junior A Camogie team who face Thurles this weekend in the league final. Please check www.nenagheireog.com for details of this encounter. We hope a huge crowd from the club will come and support this hardworking and dedicated bunch of ladies.
