Cúchulainn CLG Mullach Bán – Notes for the week.

Weekly Newsletter:

Scor: This Saturday evening 29th of March is another proud day for Cúchulainn CLG Mullach Bán, as yet again we take to the stage to represent Armagh in the Ulster Final of the Scor Sinsear in Silverbridge – throw in at 7:30pm. Good luck to Dearbhla Bennett who will be performing in what will be familiar surroundings and who will no doubt benefit from the partisan supporters in the Bridge. Dearbhla will be performing in the Solo Singing competition and is up against some stiff competition. Also up against it will be Elaine O’Sullivan, (Box) Sean O’Coinn,(Banjo) Briege Quinn(Fiddle) Moira Hughes(Whistle) and Fergal O’Brien (Bodhrán) in the Traditional Instrumental event, the guys will be hoping to return to the familiar surroundings of the All Ireland Finals in Killarney in April. A big turn out from some vocal locals will absolutely help get that little bit extra from our team. Please come along and show your support for the very talented and hard working teams. Remember this is a fabulous achievement for both the team members and the Club and leaves them only one step away from representing our Club in an All Ireland Final. Copies of the “What’s the Scor” CD are still available in local shops or directly from any member of the Committee. Good luck from Cúchulainn CLG Mullach Bán to the Carrickcruppen club who will also be representing Armagh in the Ulster final.

Gala Night DVD – Copies of the DVD recorded on the night of our very successful Gala Ball in October are now available to purchase from any member of the Committee. Prices for the Double DVD are at the very reasonable price of £10, but numbers are limited and there is big demand due to the unique nature of the content – After all, its not often that anyone gets the chance to see a speechless Benny Tierney! – Worth the money for that alone!

Football:

Men’s Senior Team: Well done to our men’s senior team who participated in the Killeavey sevens on Saturday. The guys were beaten in an effervescent quarter final by Ballymacnab by 3-4 to 1-7, after overcoming both Shane O’neills and Keady and drawing with the hosts Killeavey in the earlier rounds. The guys put in a spirited and gutsy performance on what was an extremely cold day and helped contribute to a very successful tournament. Well done to the guys from Killeavey in organising what was a great event, which very well run with good facilities for both players and supporters alike. No doubt Cúchulainn CLG Mullach Bán will be back next year to try and go a few steps further. Training continues for the senior Men on Tuesdays and Fridays, as we prepare for the upcoming first game of the league.

U18 and U16 Team: Minor and juvenile training is as usual on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8pm.

U14 Team: The U14s train on Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8pm.

U12 Team: The U12s training will again be on Saturday morning on the training fields from 11am to 12. Everyone must bring football gear for indoor and outdoor as we may be training indoors if the weather is bad.

U10 Team:. Training continues on Sunday mornings from 11:30 to 12:30. Warm clothes must be worn.

U8 Team: Still no training for the U8s this week due to the Easter break – But be ready to get back into training next week and work off all those lovely Easter Eggs! Training is scheduled to recommence on Wednesday the 2nd of April outside in the training fields from 7pm to 8pm. Please ensure that you send them out with warm clothes.

Camogie:

Senior Camogie training: Sundays at 10.30am sees the senior team on the training pitches in preparation for the new league.

Underage Camogie: Indoor Camogie training for primary and post primary is back on in the Club on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm until 7.30pm. New volunteers to help with the training are always welcome. There will be no Post Primary and U 16 Camogie training on Monday due to the Easter holidays.

Club Members: The final date for club membership is approaching as we near the end of March. Please pass your membership details to Martin McKinley our Club Registrar. Remember, Club Members get first refusal on tickets for all County games for both championship and the league – this could prove very important with home league games coming up against both Dublin, Meath and All Ireland runners up Cork, over the next few weeks. Compare the value of membership to your local GAA Club against local golf clubs or weekly prices for other children’s sports clubs.

Club Lotto: Can all Lotto ticket sellers please attend the Club on Sunday evening 30th of March at 8:30 for a lotto update from Kevin Murphy who capably heads up the Clubs Lotto sub committee. The Club lotto jackpot is now at £2300 which represents fantastic value given that we still pick from only 24 numbers! For last weeks 7 match 3 winners see the Cross Examiner Club Lotto page or simply log onto the club’s website at www.mullaghbawn.armagh.gaa.ie and view the winning numbers or click on the “Play Now” button on the home page to play your numbers on-line. Remember – you can buy a ticket and submit your numbers for the next 7 weeks and get the 8th week free!

Entertainment:

Saturday night: Live music as usual. This Saturday night has Friends back to entertain the masses from 10pm. We will be providing the usual complimentary light snacks and Admission is free!

Bingo: Eyes down for the first House from 9pm in the Club on Wednesday evening.

Congratulations to some of our younger club members who have recently been key participants in successful teams. Eddie English, Connor Walsh, Christopher Cunningham and Niall Ward all successfully represented St Joseph’s Crossmaglen in the U14 schools grade whilst representing St Paul’s also at U14 grade were Seamus Strain, Steven Lavelle and Gerard Doherty and congratulations also to Cúchulainn CLG Mullach Bán club man Brendan Doherty who was part of the St Paul’s U16 team who were narrowly beaten in the final in Clones on the same day. Success was also achieved by young club members in the recent All Ireland and International Irish Dancing competition in Castlebar with Ruari McCann coming in 3rd in the overall Boys individual U11 tournament. Ruari was part of the group team which also received a third place – other members of that team included his sister Anna, Clare McAteer Adam Matthews and Laura Leonard.
