Weekly Notes

November 8, 2018

* Last Thursday saw the passing away of one of our Club Stalwarts Joe McKibben. Joe served on our committee for many years giving great service to our club and community. He was a great family man. He will be sadly missed. The Executive Committee and Members of Caislean An Mhuilinn wish to extend their deepest sympathy to Mary, Peter, Michael, Anne, Eileen, Rose and Martin on the loss of their father. We also extend our deepest sympathy to the wide family circle. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam dilis.

* Congratulations to St Malachys Primary School Castlewellan on winning the School Champion Award at the 2012 Irish News Club & Volunteer Awards held in the Wellington Park Hotel Belfast last Friday This was a special category to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awards. All past winners were invited to compete against each other to win The Irish News Club or School Champion Award. Congratulations to all the staff and pupils of the school for playing their part in this achievement. It is also recognition of how important the role of the primary school is in the development of our children and Gaelic games. Well done to all once again In our parish we are fortunate to have fantastic primary schools doing sterling work for which we are grateful.

* “If at first you don’t succeed try, try again”. After a run of three defeats the minors won a tight game in Newry against a strong Newry Shamrocks team last Tuesday Night. It was a solid performance with the lads really putting the shoulder to the wheel. They will know that they cannot rest on their laurels and will have to work harder again against Saval whom they play this week who are currently topping the league. Well done to the lads.

* The Senior Hurlers lost out to Ballygalget this week in the league. It is a step up in standard for the lads this year but that will improve their hurling and with a lot of young lads on the team it is a learning curve for them.

* The Minor camogs qualified for the Feis Final in two weeks time where they will play Liatroim Fontenoys. It may be by default as there were only two teams who turned up for the qualifiers but we take our hats go off to the girls who are always out there to play the game and in a one off final anything can happen.

* The County Under 14 Ladies Footballers were beaten by Cavan at the weekend in the Championship. Commiserations to Nicola McCabe and Catriona Caldwell who were part of the Down team. Well done in representing your Club on the County Team.

* The Under 12 Girls started their season last weekend with a great performance against Carryduff. Fantastic performances from Nadine McAleenan, Amy Barr, Aislinn Hawkins, Caoimhe Moorehead, Wiktoria Wysocka, Erin McVeigh, The twins laura and sarah, Mya & Cara McKee, Eimear Rice, Gillish O’Donnell, Rosie Brennand and Emma Croskery. You really did your parents and managers proud and they are looking forward to your next outing already!

* The Under 14 Camogs lost out to Ballygalget in a close match last week. A real good performance by the girls who are certainly taking on all the advice their coaches are giving them. Keep up the good work ladies

* Under 8/10 Camogie training resumes Saturday Morning (19th) from 10am to 11am in St.Malachys Park. Need to see all girls out training.

* The Club will be open every Saturday morning for the duration of the underage coaching from 10.30am to 12.00pm. Eileen and Sheila will be there to take orders for club gear which will be on show. You are required to leave a small deposit of £5.00 for any orders placed. We encourage all the parents of all our young players to come along and support the kids and their coaches.
