* Both U12 Hurlers Squads finished off the indoor league on Sunday in Newtownards and Klkeel respectively. There was an impressive performance at the Eddie Irvine Centre on with that team scoring a total of 24 goals in their four matches. In Kilkeel the younger lads prepared for the under 10 tournament next week with great endeavour against stronger squads. All the lads in the Under 12 Hurling Squad have shown a huge commitment over the past 4 weeks and are to be commended for their efforts. Also to their team managers and mentors a big thank you from all at the Club. Come on lads continue the same commitment in the incoming season. The team competing at the Eddie Irvine centre was; EoinMaginn, Darragh McVeigh, Sean Keown, Adam McAleese, Matthew Muldoon, and James McAleenan. The team at Kilkeel was Mícheál óg McVeigh, Fiachra Doyle, Callum McCabe, Stephen Gallagher, Lorcan Cairns, Basil Sanju, Darren Toner, Sé King and Eoin King. Almost all this squad are eligible to take part in the under 10 blitzes starting next week. Score of the day was a long range effort from Sé King.

* Sunday 22nd October 1979 – the newspapers wrote of that day “ Brilliant Castlewellan strode to a well deserved and highly impressive Championship victory”. That was the day when the Town beat Rostrevor to win their seventh Down Senior Championship. They repeated the dose in 1982 when beating a very good Clonduff team after a replay to win their eighth county title. For many of us it only seems like yesterday when we witnessed a display of power, punch and skill from a team which where one of the dominant teams of that era. This Friday night we will honour the team who brought great success and pride to the club over 30 years ago. It was also the time of the Green Army who walked to Newcastle with their banners and their flags singing and making noise to their hearts content. The colour, the craic, the joviality and their loyalty to the club has never been forgotten. A lot of those ‘marchers’ are now in their forties. Most of them are still around the club. The younger members of today should hear their stories. Go on ask them!
