Young Munster reach fourth successive Charity Cup final

November 7, 2018

from limerickrugby.ie:
Charity Cup semi-final, Tom Clifford Park:
Young Munster 26, Garryowen 14.

Played before a fair-sized attendance on Friday night this local derby did not disappoint. The sides were level at 6-6 at the break, Willie Staunton for the home side and Jamie Gavin for the light blues, splitting the posts with penalty attempts.

It was in the second half that the tie really came to life. A third Staunton penalty and a conversion of hooker Ger Bourke’s try gave Young Munster the advantage but Jamie Gavin’s accuracy with the boot kept Garryowen in contention at 16-9. In an exciting last quarter an unconverted try by Corey Hircock and a similar score for ‘Munsters’ by Tommy Goggin, converted by Staunton, ensured another final appearance in this competition for the black and ambers.
