It was another busy day gfor the St. Mary’s Youth Rugby squads, although not all teams had matches on.
The U13’s were travelling to Stradbrook to face Blackrock in the league, but the match was rearranged to play at UCD due to pitch availability issues. The hosts gave a good account of themselves and played well, getting in one try of their own. However things worked out better for the boys in blue, who managed two tries and converted both, leaving the final score 14-5 to St. Marys.
The u14’s similarly had a very productive day, travelling all the way out there to Ashbourne. The trip was worth it for our lads though, with St. Mary’s now doing very well in a correctly-graded league at last. We managed to clock up 33 points against the very determined Ashbourne hosts, who played well and managed two converted tries of their own. Well done in particular to Senan Phelan, for making a very difficult conversion from way out to the right side of the field.
Finally the U17’s were out at Lansdowne Road in the shadow of the fantastic Aviva Stadium. This team has traveled there many times and won on numerous occasions. However it was unfortunately not to be today. Lansdowne had an amazingly disciplined and determined defence, and phase after phase could not get over their line. They eventually ran in six tries of their own, yielding them 34 points. However in true Mary’s spirit our guys fought right to the end, and we managed to get the last two tries of the game, converting one of those to leave a 34-12 final score.
Well done to all involved, and thanks to everyone for all the
support 😊
